A decoration for the end of the roof, or on the end of the fancy decoration that is on the roof.
It is what is attached to the
sign which says North, South,
East and West...to do with weather,
I think.
It's like a gargoyle which guards against evil spirits?
According to the book Primitives, these are called snowbirds, and were anchored by the holes to roof edges under materials as slate or tile, they were meant to retain snow for insulation. Others believed they could prevent a layer of snow from plunging down on the heads of pedestrians.
blimey! never heard of one, but then again, I live in Brisbane. Very clever mate. woot!
