An intense earthquake was recorded by the Hong Kong Observatoryat 6:38 a.m. today (Saturday, 3 February 2007).The epicentre was initially determined to be over northwestern Qinghaiprovince, China (37.7N, 91.8E), about 310 kilometres west-northwestof Golmud.The magnitude was estimated to be 5.5 on the Richter Scale.
